We are collaborating with the The Leadership Alliance to build a First Year Research Experience (FYRE) program that provides important research opportunities for first year students from Minority Serving Institutions. In summer 2016, we had the pleasure of hosting Samuel Honore from Brooklyn College who worked on an independent research project involving lipid metabolism and signaling in inflammation.

We are also teaming up with the Virginia-North Carolina Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation to increase the number of underrepresented minority students earning baccalaureate degrees and pursuing careers in graduate school. In summer 2016, we had the wonderful opportunity to host Jocelyn Hernandez-Vega from Johnson C. Smith University who was able to gain her first research experience working on mammalian cell culture, recombinant protein production, and enzyme analysis.
